Daily journal December 3, 2001, Property-tax hearing tomorrow night at county square. Due to the extreme protest from the general public in this county over their taxes doubling this year. I predict they will sell a higher percentage of houses in their October tax sale if they do not recall their increase. Even the politicians are reportedly complaining that their own taxes have gone up too much. The Legislature limits the increase to 2% in one year mandating that they lower the millage when they raise the appraisal. If a person does not intend to sell their house then why should their taxes increase? Why should a home have a value placed on it for tax purposes, which has nothing to do with the owners ability to pay tax. Property values come and go based on demand. It would appear that Greenville County is outside the law in this year's tax billing on Real Estate. We are in recession and so many people are out of work. People have no chance to survive in this all consuming world of greed. Let there be a halt to this torture and to this persecution of the free hard-working people of this country so honest and fair but so deceived by all the propaganda. The Legislative delegation.
